“White Label” Digital Marketing Services Without Your Knowledge
I want to preface this by saying I have no opposition to white label digital marketing IF the client/customer knows this is what they are getting.
However, with my digital marketing consultant hat on, I’ve seen a trend recently towards businesses paying for digital marketing management (and paying full agency rates) only for the work to be shipped off to a white label agency who is sub-contracted, and oftentimes delivering substandard work.
I have worked on a couple of projects recently in a consulting capacity, where the client had no idea that the agency they were paying substantial sums to for “in house, expert management” was farming out all of the work to a ‘sweat shop’ white label agency with massive churn, meaning that there was poor consistency to the management and substandard results.
In this video, I discuss why the client should be entitled to know if there is white labelling (at the very least if they ask) and the pros and cons of working with an agency/freelancer/provider who farms out some work.
I 100% get it that there can be instances when an agency needs to call on extra resource to help cover a shortfall (e.g. someone is sick, or there is a piece of work that falls outside of the team’s existing skill set and which is critical to the project) – sub-contracting is an important part of business in many industries.
However, I am not so comfortable with businesses paying full agency rates and having no knowledge that all of the implementation work for ad campaigns, SEO etc is being farmed out completely.
