Enhancing the Lives of Families and Communities

Often, we become so entrenched in the “hot-button” issues of the day that we don't recognize the issues that make our city the place that we call home.

When I am Mayor, we will continue to enhance the District as a unique and treasured home for all of our residents by:

EMBRACING DIVERSITY

•  Expand language capacities of District agencies and services, so the government is more accessible to our Latino and Asian residents

•  Mandate translation services for all events that are subsidized or funded by the District

•  Protect the rights of GLBT citizens by mandating GLBT diversity training for government employees and urging the faith based community to embrace people of all lifestyles.

SAFEGUARDING OUR HISTORY, BUT ANTICIPATING OUR FUTURE

•  Continue my long-standing support for historical preservation in the city through stable leadership, funding and regulatory control

•  Continue to support smart transportation growth to alleviate traffic concerns and anticipate increasing tourism congestion, and working with the federal government to determine appropriate future plans, including tunnel and bridge development

VIGOROUSLY SUPPORTING THE BEAUTY AND CULTURE OF OUR CITY

•  Support the development of our rich art cultures, including support for theater development and art and music programs in the city

•  Maintain the outstanding progress forged with our parks and recreation centers, but also provide incentives for co-location and multiple uses of these facilities

•  Continue to rigorously protect our environment
